Schantl, FabienneFulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant

Biography

Fabienne Schantl was born and raised in a small town in southern Styria, Austria. When she began her studies to become a teacher, she moved to Graz, where she has lived ever since. She completed her master’s degree in English, History, and Politics and has been teaching for the past six years. During her studies, she developed a particular interest in African American literature. Not only did she engage extensively with readings and projects on this subject with her students in Austria, but she also began writing her dissertation last year (working title: Their Eyes Were Reading Women: Teaching Gender Through African American Literature in an Austrian Classroom). Fabienne is very excited to study and work at Emory University as a Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant. She looks forward to sharing her mother tongue and culture with her students while also gaining first-hand experience of life in the United States, as this is her first time there.
