Emory's Sustainability Engagement Opportunities

Office of Sustainability Initiatives

The Office of Sustainability Initiatives (OSI) was established in 2006 as a part of the Emory administration and has been working to make Emory a model of transformative practices and sustainable choices at every level.

Students looking to engage with sustainability on campus can apply to OSI's internship program, apply for small grants for sustainability research and projects, be trained as a peer-educator on the waste sorting system at Emory, meet local farmers and small business owners at the weekly Emory Farmers Market, and more.

Sign up for the weekly OSI newsletter to stay informed about campus and community sustainability news, events, and resources.

Emory sustainability student groups

Emory students organize to enhance sustainability programming, community-building, service, and advocacy in many ways. There are 20+ student groups that students can join to gain leadership experience and to become part of a robust network of campus sustainability champions.

University Senate Committees

The University Senate is an essential component of University governance. It is comprised of Emory faculty, staff, and students, who advise the University of many aspects of culture, operations, and development. Students can apply annually to join Senate committees. Students with sustainability values and experiences might find the Committee on the Environment, Transportation Committee, Campus Development Committee, or the Campus Life Committee most apt for impacting campus sustainability practices and systems.

Emory's Educational Garden Project

The Atlanta campus has multiple gardens across the campus that are overseen by the Office of Sustainability Initiatives and run by campus volunteers. The Gardens provide food, habitat, and learning opportunities to students, faculty, and staff who want spaces in which they can learn to grow seasonal food with organic methods. All members of the Emory community are invited to join any weekly volunteer workday in the Educational Gardens on campus to learn about and contribute to small-scale food production.
